FOR YOUR INFORMATION:

1 - Grants Programs for Visual artists Worldwide - all media

The GRANTS PROGRAMS list gathers a unique range of grants, fellowships and scholarships in the sphere of the visual arts and addresses visual artists worldwide. The list provides subscribers with grants programs. It details the name, address and urls of grants announcements, funding opportunities and visual art related prizes posted by U.S., Canadian, Australian and European Art Foundations, Public Art Programs, State Arts Councils and Community Foundations worldwide.

Grants programs are very often ongoing, but sometimes with deadlines for national or international submissions. Always check the corresponding websites for general guidelines, eligibility requirements and deadline dates for submissions.

2 - Portfolio Reviews Programs for Visual artists Worldwide - all media

The PORFOLIO REVIEWS LIST gives access to information about portfolio/slide reviews, ongoing submission guidelines and calls for exhibition proposals. Very few artists are aware of the fact that well-known institutions, galleries, contemporary art centers and even museums review artists’ portfolios throughout the year or sometimes have a call for proposal section and who they are. This section offers about 50 portfolio review guidelines and provides you with the name, address and submission requirements of these institutions. You will gain access to precise - and very often difficult to find - information regarding how to submit to these calls.

You should read the submission requirements carefully and follow the submission guidelines (some of them have very specific requirements regarding the submission procedure).  Don't hesitate to visit the ‘past exhibitions’ section on the website of the institution or gallery.  This might allow you to see whether your work could fit the exhibition space programming structure and help in the decision process for the most appropriate place to send your material.

3 - Slide Registry Programs for Visual artists Worldwide - all media

The SLIDE REGISTRY PROGRAMS LIST gives access to information about several slide/visual registry programs. Slide Registries and online portfolios promote the work of visual artists. There are several forms of slide/visual registry programs. Some are conducted by institutions/art centers/art commissions and are free, some are paying.

What are the benefits of joining an Artist Slide Registry program?

For visual artists, the documenting of their work with slides -- including taking photographs of their work to its best advantage, the time involved in organizing slides, and the expense of creating duplicate slides -- is a necessity in the exhibition process. But once an artist has created slide records of his or her work, housing copies in slide registries across the world is a way to increase exposure and to expand exhibition opportunities, particularly if the artist regularly updates his or her documentation (and if the artist's work reproduces well in the slide medium).

It helps artists to reach public art opportunities nationwide and worldwide, to have the work included in major visual arts resources, expand connections with users, such as curators, corporations, public sector clients, consultants, galleries, urban planners, city and state officials as well as administration programs that integrate the arts into public spaces or public art projects or advocates for integration of the visual arts into the built environment.

You should read the submission requirements carefully and follow the slide registry guidelines (some of them have very specific requirements regarding the submission procedure) before sending slides/material.  Sometimes a slide registry program asks for a specific application form (to be signed by the artist) which generally is downloadable from the website.
